ALGARVE SURF LESSONS
Two coasts an hour apart means one of them is usually sheltered, and the schools drive you to whichever it is. These 6 lessons cover Albufeira, Lagos and the west coast beaches, priced by half day.
Meet SUPA at its wooden kiosk near Praia da Galé’s car park. After a warm-up and safety lesson, you’ll practise paddling, reaching the break, and standing on the board. Certified Portuguese and English-speaking instructors, including coaches such as Antonio, Mariana, and Matheus, work with beginners and early intermediate surfers.

Meet Albufeira Surf & Snorkeling Adventure at Praia da Falésia for a two-hour lesson shaped around your level. You’ll warm up on the sand or head into the water, using supplied boards and wetsuits while instructors such as Nuno, Shana, or John help you read waves and work toward standing up. Groups are limited to nine.

Meet Albufeira Surf & Sup at the yellow-logo shop by Galé Beach, then walk five minutes to the sand for a two-hour lesson. Coaches including Rodrigo, Alex, Ricardo, Nuno, and Francesco teach beginners in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Wetsuit, board, insurance, and post-lesson café time are included.

Meet Surf4Fun at the pier, suit up in a neoprene wetsuit, and spend two hours learning to catch waves at Galé Beach. Certified instructors such as Rafael, Ricardo, Pedro, and Igor have helped beginners get their first stand-up. Expect a warm-up, safety advice, board practice, and direct coaching in English, French, Portuguese, or Spanish.

Meet Algarve Watersport in Lagos for a two-hour beginner surf lesson led in English by certified instructors. You’ll learn wave safety, tides, currents, paddling, and board control before practicing on a beach selected for the day’s conditions. Alex, Emil, Andras, and Angelo have all taught past sessions, though instructors vary.
“We had a very chilling start in the day! Becca and her crew have an amazing surf camp. Very lovely people. You feel welcome at the first moment you enter the camp. After a cup of coffee, we started driving around 40km to the westcoast. Arriving at the beach you just have seen one thing: WAVES WAVES WAVES. As we have been absolute beginners, our instructor explained us the basics of surfing, slowly and good to understand. Then we,'ve practising in the water the rest of the day. I can only highly recommend this event.”
Meet Carrapateira Extreme Tours in Carrapateira Village for a 1 to 2 hour beginner surf lesson. Tiago, Guy, or another Portuguese, English, or Spanish speaking instructor teaches basic technique, then helps you catch a wave with a board, wetsuit, and insurance included. Private and small-group lessons are available.
