Start times can shift with ocean conditions.

Meet your instructor at Tyson Street near Oceanside Pier for a private, one-hour surf lesson. You’ll get a board, wetsuit, and focused coaching on the basics, from ocean awareness to standing on the board. Pickup is offered, and the beach meeting point is near public transportation.

Meet Cal Coast Adventures in Solana Beach for a private North San Diego surf lesson lasting about 90 minutes. You’ll learn paddling, lineup position, wave selection, and the pop-up with an instructor such as Brennan, Justin, Elias, or Ladd. Board, leash, and wetsuit are included, and swimming ability is required.

You’ll review technique, form, and safety on shore, then paddle out together while Karch helps you catch waves. The lesson suits first-timers, families, and mixed-age groups, with timing adjusted when tides matter.

Meet a CPR-certified Wavehuggers instructor at 7201 Carlsbad Blvd for a private two-hour surf lesson. Natasha and David are among the instructors praised for clear, patient coaching. You’ll learn footwork on the beach, then practice paddling, catching waves, and improving technique with your own instructor beside you.

Meet professional surfer Eric McHenry at 113 N Acacia Ave for a private two-hour lesson covering the basics of surfing from paddling to the pop-up. You’ll practice at Fletcher Cove Park in Solana Beach, with only your group taking part. The lesson is offered in English and ends where it begins.
